What is an AI-Native MSP?
An AI-Native Managed Service Provider is an MSP built from the ground up around AI agents as the primary way work gets acquired and delivered, not as an add-on to existing operations. AI doesn’t sit on top of a human-run process. It replaces the process itself.
Open in the AI MSP IndexThe criteria
To be listed in this index, an MSP must meet at least one of the following:
- Product-led sales. Sales is product-led with no human interaction in most client wins. Pricing, onboarding, and contracting are structured so a prospective client can evaluate, commit, and activate without a sales rep carrying the deal. Sales staff can still exist. But in most client wins, nobody is closing the deal.
- Automated onboarding. Onboarding and discovery is automated from credential provision. Once a client grants access, the MSP’s systems handle environment discovery, baseline configuration, documentation, and initial monitoring setup. A technician might check the output but they’re not building it.
- AI-first ticketing. Channels to lodge a ticket request hit an AI before a human. Whether a client submits by email, portal, or phone, the first point of triage is an AI agent that classifies, enriches, and either resolves or routes the ticket. An engineer enters the workflow only when the AI flags that human hands, words, or relationships are needed.
- AI ticket resolution. A meaningful portion of tickets are resolved by AI without human involvement. “Meaningful” isn’t a fixed percentage, but it should show up in capacity metrics. Closing five percent of tickets with AI is an improvement whilst closing most of the Tier 1 volume with AI is a different business model.
- AI-maintained documentation. Documentation is updated by AI. Client environment records, runbooks, and configuration notes are kept current by automated processes, not by technicians writing up what they did when they get a spare moment. The documentation reflects what the environment looks like right now.
- Margin and headcount reflect it. Operating margin and headcount ratios are materially different to a traditional MSP of comparable size. If you look at the headcount-to-revenue ratio and it looks the same as everyone else’s, the AI isn’t doing what it claims. An MSP where the numbers are indistinguishable from a conventional shop is a conventional shop with better marketing.
- Transparent to clients. Clients consent to the use of AI based on clear information about how it’s used. They know which actions are AI-driven, which are human-reviewed, and what data goes to which models. This gets disclosed at onboarding and updated as tooling changes. Not buried in terms of service.
What this index is NOT
This index is not a directory of MSPs that resell Copilot, maintain a shared ChatGPT subscription, or want placement in a vendor marketplace. Those things exist. This isn’t the place for them.
How submissions are reviewed
Submissions are reviewed by a small editorial group. Where relevant the MSP is engaged to confirm their value proposition.
Changes may be requested by verified decision makers in the MSP.
